Marlene Dietrich singing "You Do Something To Me" with a deep voice in 1939.

You do something to me
Something that simply mystifies me
Tell me, why should it be
You have the power to hypnotize me
Let me live 'neath your spell
You do that voodoo that you do so well
[For] you do something to me
That nobody else could do.

< one minute gap with music >

Let me live 'neath your spell
You do that voodoo that you do so well
[For] you do something to me
That nobody else could do
o

It was the deep voice that got me, maybe Marlene had a cold at the time.

Just a surgestion start it with "Father, Son, Holly spirit"

How about 'You Made Me Love You' as a song for Calvinists who can go for music that isn't from a Psalter or traditional hymn book. There are some Calvinists with 'contemporary' services.

The lyrics can work except for the part about not wanting to tell him, and maybe the 'brand of kisses that I'd die for' part. The lyrics could be changed for that.

Culturally, the emphasis on feelings might not fit with some of the Calvinists, but I don't see why it should be a doctrinal issue, just maybe seen as a bit shallow.

I have been thinking of it from the start, like a atheist that does not want to go to church should be singing it in church.

I definitely don't care for the song in the OP as a hymn, especially the voodoo part. I notice some CCM folks or at least worship leaders address how people feel. There is a place for that, but this song is heavy on talk on feelings, but where is the theological content?

Some Psalms do address emotions, btw, like the soul being downcast, rejoicing, etc.

The 'You Made Me Love You' lyrics make sense for Calvinists since they believe men are totally depraved and that men love and want God because God makes them to do so. I suppose 'I didn't want to do it' would fit the the total depravity angle. The part about not wanting to admit her love for him after she loved him doesn't seem to have much theological basis.

I'm not a Calvinist. I just thought it would fit their theology.

But at least there is some kind of content there as opposed to a song about hypnotism, a spell, voodooo-- occultic metaphors.

That whole genre of music doesn't really do much for me. But I was born after the Beatles came on the scene. But out of the two songs, the sounds of 'You made me love you' is a lot more appealing, IMO.

I'm wondering if someone not liking your song choice really burns you up that bad emotionally, such that you use that kind of language.

This is a discussion forum? Why post if you aren't interested? Have sex in church? Huh? I didn't hear anything about sex in either of those songs, but you are the one who started posting old love songs.

This just have to be a typical gutless attitude I find most christians have, almost like communist pigs, they just can not look at the positive, they just have to put someone down, if you had of started your own thread, I would have most likely read it, but for sure I WOULD NOT HAVE ADDED ANYTHING TO IT. because I just think I could not have added anything worth saying I thought was good to say.

It is sabbath day in New Zealand. The Seventh Day Advetist (SDA) church, the Presbyterian, the Anglican churches has totally put me going to church, I even went to the catholic church I thought I would never do, all the unGodly "things" they have done over the years.
I would be interested to learn if there is another non christian church that only uses the king James version bible, so if you can help me with that. I came here thinking I could strengthen christian attitude for the good, but bingo they kick me down every time, and guess what, someone from the SDA church in Auckland who used to teach people at church suddenly disappeared because he got involved in violating some copyright, how unique.
From that same church a few weeks ago, slightly sarcutly said I do not want to go to heaven, I might meet some I have meet at church" $$$ BINGO $$$ he just could not ask me "what do you mean with that? (and I could have given some good examples), he had to do what all christians do, insult me and say "dont you trust God" I have so much christian bagage from churches it is unbelievable.

My Mother, as a solo parent, often used to say to my three sisters and myself "If you can not say anything good, do not say anything," But christians seem to love to go out of their way in breaking that idea. and by the way, it is a personnel rule I keep to when I am in church. Churches should be the best, friendlist, stressless place we can go each week but I always find it the opposite.

IS THIS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY A LOT OF PEOPLE DO NOT GO TO CHURCH ANYMORE, I think it could be.

I disagreed with your idea. I didn't see how that song could work as a Christian hymn. I didn't insult you.

I think we over complicate some things that God makes plain. Why not something like Jesus loves me set to a more adult instrumental. Lydia Laird does a good Version.
