Chat FAQ

Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about Christian Chat.

1. How do I use the voice chat?

On the password page, make sure that you log in with the default option "allow voice chat". Then after you log into the chat room, if the voice chat is successfully connected, a microphone icon will appear in the lower left hand corner of the chat interface. Simply click and hold down the microphone icon to speak. The first time you click the icon, it will ask permission to use your microphone. Grant the permission, then you can simply hold down the microphone button/icon anytime you want to speak. For one second or less it may say "Requesting mic....". Wait for the confirmation message "YOU are speaking" before you actually start talking. (If it says "Someone else got the mic!", then wait for that person to stop speaking, and try again.)

2. How do I make my chat avatar/photo display when I speak on the microphone?

When you speak in the chat rooms on the microphone you will see a default chat avatar with a note that tells you to send your chat photo to our email address. Just send it to that email address and we'll prepare it and post it.

3. Can I change my chat avatar/photo?

Yes you may change your chat avatar/photo but you need to prepare it yourself (or pay a US$5 fee for us to do it for you). To do it yourself, you must make sure it meets these three specifications: 1) 160x120 pixels or smaller (it can be any size or shape, as long as the width does not exceed 160 pixels and the height does not exceed 120 pixels), and 2) less than 7KB filesize, and 3) .jpg file format. (We do all this for you the first time for free, but if you want to change it for free, you'll need to do all that yourself.)

4. How do I edit my chat profile?

Simply click the Profile button in the lower right hand corner of the chat room interface, beside the smileys.

5. How do I add HTML to my chat profile?

Read the Chat Profile Help page.

6. How can I become a chat room monitor?

We're sorry we don't accept requests to be a monitor.

7. Are these chat rooms monitored?

We try our best to keep the chat rooms monitored 24/7. However we cannot make any guarantee that there will always be a monitor on every minute of every day.

8. Are these chat rooms safe for my children?

Relatively speaking, for internet chat rooms, yes. We normally have monitors present to watch over the rooms. However nothing can replace parental supervision; we don't recommend that you let your children loose unsupervised in any chat room on the internet, not even a Christian chat room.

9. Help! Someone is sending me nasty messages.

If someone messages anything improper to you (whether in the chat rooms or in private), promptly notify a chat room monitor. (Monitors have an orange symbol by their nick in the nick list.) Just double-click a monitor's nick in the nick list to open a private chat window with him/her. Please fully state the trouble in your initial message (including the nick of the troublemaker).

10. Do you monitor our private chats?

Currently our system is not set up such that monitors can see other people's private chat sessions. However we may in the near future incorpate an option that would allow you to log your own private chats on our server (if you so desire), which you may refer us to in the event that you need to report anything inappropriate.
