Bad men put Jesus on the cross
Some two thousand years ago.
They beat Him most severely
And His blood began to flow.

Then put on Him a crown of thorns
And slapped and spat about his face.
He suffered great indignities
As they put Him in His place.

Next they led Him to Golgatha
Where they gambled for His clothes.
Then drove the spikes deep in His palms
And just above His toes.

I strained to view the faces of the men
Who mounted Jesus on the tree.
When finally I stole a glance
The face I saw was me.

True!
The face I saw was We.
