They who are united to Christ, effectually called, and regenerated, having a new heart and a new spirit created in them through the virtue of Christ's death and resurrection, are also farther sanctified, really and personally,1 through the same virtue, by his Word and Spirit dwelling in them;2 the dominion of the whole body of sin is destroyed,3 and the several lusts of it are more and more weakened and mortified,4 and they more and more quickened and strengthened in all saving graces,5 to the practice of all true holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.6

1 Acts 20:32; Rom. 6:5–6
2 John 17:17; Eph. 3:16–19; 1 Thess. 5:21–23

PARAGRAPH 2
This sanctification is throughout the whole man,7 yet imperfect in this life; there abides still some remnants of corruption in every part,8 wherefrom arises a continual and irreconcilable war; the flesh lusting against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh.9

8 Rom. 7:18,23
9 Gal. 5:17; 1 Pet. 2:11

PARAGRAPH 3
In which war, although the remaining corruption for a time may much prevail,10 yet, through the continual supply of strength from the sanctifying Spirit of Christ, the regenerate part does overcome;11 and so the saints grow in grace, perfecting holiness in the fear of God, pressing after an heavenly life, in evangelical obedience to all the commands which Christ as Head and King, in his Word has prescribed to them.12

Good stuff. I wasn't so much trying to give a treatise on sanctification, but broaden its usage to make a point. We have become a people who are ever learning while our lives practically change very little. We know alot of stuff, but it changes our lives little. A simple truth understood and practiced is far better than much knowledge that never affects our behavior. Milk before meat.

I don't go for any of this keeping of the law malarkey,

There's a set of instructions that if followed, ye will not sin.

Is called guarding your heart.

If you hold on to the jewel in your heart you don't sin.

If you take every thought captive and take it to your heart, you dont sin.

If you hold on to your heart stay away from trouble, honour your marriage, and live a quiet life you don't sin.

If you hold on to your heart stay clean, you don't sin

If your organised and treat people with kindness you don't sin.

If you engage with argumentive dead beats for to long you sin.
You say you don't do any of the law malarkey, yet you then list commands you employ to live your life.
Your last 2 comments are counterintuitive. Just treat them kindly.
The only point I was putting forth for your consideration was our inability to keep commandments apart from Christ being saved or unsaved.

The flesh knew no sin until temptation came along.

Flesh was given one commandment at first, to not eat from the tree of knowledge. Because God must have foreseen the tempters plans to tempt Adam and Eve away from God.

Yeah ye can say that's blaming evil

But yeah Adam and Eve knew no sin, and did not know the consequences of sin. They knew no death. There conscience was not aware of death, where as evil was,

As Satan tricked Eve and said you will surely live.

Eve not being conscious of death chose life thinking it was better than death.

God said if you eat from that tree you will surely die.

But they where children in an adult body who where not conscious of death.

Nobody is conscious of death until they have experienced it.

Animals like cats and dogs are not conscious of death, either.

Who was the evil in the garden, that tempted Eve.

The evil that has come to destroy Gods work, for we are all a creation of Gods work.

Evil can not create, this is why Gods grace is offered and given to all.

The chosen part is He will choose who doesn't perish.

So his grace is offered to all and given to all, but not all are saved by his grace.

Some will perish by his grace.

As his grace is not going to burn people alive for all eternity, no his grace will destroy evil, 😊

I hear you brother-

Heb 5:11 About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.
Heb 5:12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food,
Heb 5:13 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child.
Heb 5:14 But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

1Pe 2:1 So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.
1Pe 2:2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation—
1Pe 2:3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.
1Pe 2:4 As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious,
1Pe 2:5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
1Pe 2:6 For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”
1Pe 2:7 So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”
1Pe 2:8 and “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
1Pe 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
1Pe 2:10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
1Pe 2:11 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.
1Pe 2:12 Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

the word is instructions.
It contains imperatives. Those are commands. Guard your heart and take every thought captive are not suggestions; they are commands. But again, regardless of how you classify them, you aren't actually doing so apart from Christ. Mine and your best efforts don't please God. It is only as we walk in the Spirit and Christ lives in and through us that we will ever please God.

The word is instructions.

No one is without excuse.

If sin is not repented of you go to hell.

The instructions are also to stop you from sinning.

Because the wages for sin is death.

Oooh...you sound like an antinomian -- entirely without law. What about the Law of Christ that Paul placed himself under (1Cor 9:21)?

I don't go with arguments about the law.

I go with respecting the law.

If I was you I would do the same.

People who argu about the law are generally a law unto themself's.

Actually, according to Galatians 5:16, it is as we walk in the Spirit that we do not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
I agree that focusing on the law is not the answer. But neither is trusting in what we do.

Of course not. But He is only controlling the heart as we walk in the Spirit. The rest of the time it is you in charge.
You said I can't trust my heart based on old testament scripture.

I posted you new testament scripture showing You the lord lives there.

Do you want to acknowledge your error.

Temptation is not a sin, falling into it and committing an act of wrong doing is.

Nobody is conscious of death until they have experienced it.😊
Ecclesiastes 9:5 is a verse that reflects on the contrasting realities of life and death from a specific perspective. Here's a breakdown of the verse:
For the living know that they shall die: This part acknowledges the universal truth of mortality. Everyone who is alive understands that death is inevitable.

hmm temptation is not sin.

Would you care to elaborate.

If you tempt somebody to sin are you going to tell me that's good.
