The Book of Romans

scripture will be copied from Biblehub.com

This is the first doctrinal letters written somewhere between 58 and 60 A.D. By Paul. Paul did not walk with Christ that does not take away from his credentials at all. He was chosen of God to deliver His message to the Gentiles. You can read in Acts chapter 9 that he was struck down by God as he was on his way to gather the christian in Damascus to take them back to Jerusalem. God leads Ananias to him. At first Ananias is not sure about this because Paul has been taking christian's and having them killed. What does Got tell Ananias and us Acts 9:15&16 “Go thy way for he is a chosen vessel unto Me to bear My name unto the Gentiles, and the kings, and the children of Israel: 16. For I will show him how great things he must suffer for My Names sake”. God is giving Paul his stamp of approval so we should listen to him.

God also used Peter to give approval unto Paul: 2 Peter 3:15&16 15And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Paul has a way of teaching and bringing forth Gods teaching on those 3 levels so tat we can really get a good look at our fathers word.

Having given that opening statement lets get into the book of Romans one of the doctrinal letters telling us just how to be a Christian, how to live a Christian life, and how to have God's blessings.

Romans Chapter 1.

Verse 1.Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God.

Called to be an Apostle: Paul did not choose to be an apostle God chose him. Separated: The word separated in the Greek means to appoint. So Paul was appointed to the Gospel of God by God.

Verse 2. (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)

He was spoken of by God through scripture as the one who would come filled with the Holy Spirit tat one that the comforter would choose and lead.

Verse 3. Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

Who was that in the old testament? Isaiah 53 out of the seed of Jesse, would come this one, this sprout that would be the only begotten.

Verse 4. And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

With power: (dunamis in the Greek Miraculous power,) He was able to get it done. He got it done alright He defeated death.

Verse 5. By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name.

Through Christ all gifts of God come forth. All gifts as Paul had to teach and bring forth apostleship, it comes from Christ, it is a gift. It all comes from God it is a part of that dunamis that power of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter. To be a comfort to all given in truth.

Verse 6. Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:

Why, how you have ears to hear.

Verse 7. To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul had never been there but He wanted to go. This is how He opens his letter to the church at Rome.

Verse 8. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

What is the first thing Paul says? I thank my God through Jesus Christ throughout the whole world. This word world as used here is cosmos it means the natural earth as God created it. It is important that you to remember because that will come up throughout this study; that which is natural and that witch is unnatural. The cosmos is the natural earth you can look at it, you can learn from it. In many cases you do not even need the word of God to see what is right and what I wrong by observing what is natural in the world. Not as man has messed it up but as God created it.

Verse 9. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

I always mention you when I am talking to the father. Little history; Paul's father was a natural born Roman citizen so that made Paul citizen as well.

Verse 10. Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.

This was Paul's wish that he could go to Rome. He wanted to take the message there.

Verse 11.For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;

He wanted to see the church established there. He wanted impart that charisma, that gift from God; that could be in preaching, teaching, whatever that gift might be he wanted them to have it, but most of all the truth of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Verse 12. That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.

We can help each other through the comforter that is to say the Holy Spirit; Why? Because God will always uplift and we can help each other in that respect; s witness to all to the comfort that that one brings us from the scripture, from His doctrine and leadership

Verse 13. Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.

This word Gentiles you are going to fine it translated both Gentiles and Greeks. You could say it means Ethnos meaning people other than those of Israel.

Verse 14. I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.

Paul was sent to teach on these levels to the Jews, to the Greek to the Barbarians; and to the wise and the unwise. You can read of it in Acts chapter 9. Was he sent to judge them NO not even they were Barbarians; even if they were ethnic and had not heard the message of the resurrection he could still teach them, lead them and guide them that was his responsibility. He was to go to Israel and the Ethnos.

Verse 15. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.

I have got the truth and Paul was a great scholar. He studied at the feet of GAMALIEL; he could speak more languages than any of the others, He spoke the Roman language, Hebrew, Greek (his Greek was more of a street Greek than formal) Aramaic, he was quite the scholar. He did not need an interpreter he could handle almost any situation he came across.
