We see people in the chat room a lot, asking people "How do I do this so this shows up?" and we try to explain things to them, but sometimes, it just doesn't help. Sometimes people need to actually need to be SHOWN how to do it step-by-step.

So I was thinking, maybe Christian Chat could make a YouTube account or something, and make video walk-throughs of "How to put an avatar on CC," "How to edit your profile," just stuff like that, and post a forum with links to those videos in the New Christian Chat Forum and make it a "Sticky." I know that for the people that aren't so new, it's obvious to us. But I see a lot of people, myself included, who have no idea how to do this kind of stuff when they first join.

I know people have tried to make pictures and stuff for this, but I don't think people are always able to comprehend it.

I hope this suggestion makes sense or sounds somewhat useful. God bless!

I rebuke all sensible suggestions... I like the ones that make me chuckle on the inside. Not the ones that make me say, why didn't I think of that...

But in all seriousness, I think 2 factors limit this, 1 most people won't go out of their way to do such a thing for others. and 2 even if someone did. Most likely they would have to make a video about how to watch the video they just made :p.

I see where you're coming from. But I also think it never hurts to ask so that's why I decided to post it. :D

i most heartily agree. i have been trying to learn the computer by trial and error and i can assure you that so far it has been mostly error and very frustrating. i have been able to make use of some of the suggestions given during chat but it is an intrusion for the chatters and i am sure they get tired of repeating it to all the newbies. which for the tutorials given many thanks

I've seen this suggestion before. The biggest problem i see with it is the video would be so small, some may have trouble seeing whats being done. There would have to be a way to make the size of the screen bigger than a normal Youtube video.
If it could be done, and done well, it would be a good idea.

I think it would be fine as long as they don't record externally (i.e. using a camcorder or phone). If they use software to record everything and upload it at a decent resolution - say, 360p to 480p - then it should be fine. People can resize the player if need be. :)

Yeah, I've seen that kind of thing done before. It's really useful.

But you're assuming most users would be knowledgeable enough to do that. I wonder how many posts we would receive saying 'the video is too small, maybe you guys should make it bigger'. I think that's a pretty realistic viewpoint on how most people are in regards to these things. If they can't figure out the blue button on the front page that says 'chat now' is to get into chat, or that the cam/mic options right next to that button are there and how they work, how will they know how to adjust the screen size of Youtube?

Could be a link to the Youtube, and then people should be able to full screen it. I think errybuddy knows how to fullscreen.

If they don't know how to go full screen on a YouTube video with a single mouse click, then likely no instructional video of any kind is going to be of much use. :p

But the exception is not the rule. Not everyone is vision impaired, so it stands to be helpful.

I didn't say everyone was. So that's pretty much an irrelevant statement.

And if someone isn't aware that there is a button that makes the screen larger, just means no one showed them, or they haven't tried. Its presumptuous to assume they could not follow a clear video tutorial.

Also, i didn't say it wouldn't be helpful. So that's twice now you've put it on me saying things i never said. I actually said it was a good idea.
